Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health
On completion of this three year course you will be qualified to act as a health and safety or environmental, health and safety advisor in any workplace.
This is the longest running Occupational Safety and Health degree course in the country and our graduates are highly sought after by employers across all sectors, from manufacturing to construction, retail to public bodies.
The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to manage workplace safety and health in order to protect workers from injuries and illnesses. You will gain practical experience in monitoring workplace contaminants such as noise, vibration, chemicals and biological agents. You will be qualified to act as a manual handling instructor and workstation assessor. You will also learn how to promote health and wellbeing within the workplace so that workers can remain healthier for longer and be more productive.
The course engages students in a dynamic and innovative way from first year through to third year. Students learn how to effectively work with people by working within groups and teams to solve real workplace safety and health issues. The course gives a blend of theoretical and practical learning from lectures, laboratory based monitoring, site visits, case studies and enquiry based learning.
Our course is accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and qualifies you to take up a career as a Health and Safety Advisor/Manager in any type of industry anywhere in the world.

The new Leaving Certificate Common Points Scale from 2017 is not directly comparable with the scale that was in existence from 1992 to 2016.

Applicants should list their CAO course choices in genuine order of preference and they will be offered the course highest up on their list that they are deemed eligible for, if any.

On successful completion of the BSc. Occupational Safety and Health (Level 7) there is an option to progress to the BSc. (Honours) Occupational Safety and Health (Level 8) at Institute of Technology, Sligo and the MSc. (Level 9) Environmental Health and Safety Management.
