Post Graduate Certificate in Road Maintenance Engineering & Network Management (Online)

IT Sligo in collaboration with the Local Authority Services National Training Group (LASNTG) and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTS) are delighted to announce the launch of a new online part time programme tailored to address current civil engineering skills shortages in the areas of road maintenance engineering and network management (subject to successful programme validation). It is planned that this programme will lead into a Post Grad Diploma and Masters qualification in the future.

For local authority engineers, this programme will be 80% funded by DTTS and 20% funded by local authorities.

Course Description

This course will prepare local authority engineers, consultants and contractors with the knowledge, skills and competences required for successful road maintenance engineering and network management. In the first semester, topics include roles and responsibilities, contracts, specifications, transportation in the urban environment, development plans, transport planning, traffic signs, lighting and road safety. In semester two, road pavement management, structural assessment geotechnical engineering and drainage aspects will be covered.

Special Purpose Awards

Successfully completing the following modules will result in an award title as follows:

  • All modules: Post Grad Cert in Road Maintenance Engineering and Network Mgt.
  • Module 1, 2 and 3: Post Grad Cert in Road Network Management.
  • Module 4, 5 and 6: Post Grad Cert in Road Maintenance Engineering
  • Module 1 and 4: Post Grad Cert in Pavement Management and Network Operations.

 

Note: Each module is 5 ECTS credits. Modules 1, 2 and 3 are grouped in one semester; modules 4, 5 and 6 are in another.
