Athena Swan Survey

The Athena Swan Survey is now open to staff of IT Sligo.  We would encourage all our staff to take 15 minutes to fill out the form; Be Heard, Make a Change and Leave a Legacy.

Athena SWAN is a principles based Charter established to encourage and recognise a commitment to advancing gender equality in Higher Education. IT Sligo has signed up to the Charter and is undertaking this survey as part of the Athena SWAN process. The survey will provide all members of staff with the opportunity to have their say, to be heard and to make a difference. It is a substantial and anonymous survey, which seeks to understand your experiences of work and the working environment in IT Sligo, with a particular focus on equality and diversity.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

IT Sligo is committed to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone is treated with dignity and respect regardless of gender, age, race, disability, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, civil status, family status, or membership of the travelling community.

IT Sligo has taken a number of actions to deliver on this commitment, with more planned.

1) The 2017-2022 Strategic Plan includes objectives of achieving gender balance in management positions, and of obtaining an Athena Swan bronze award.

2) The Governing Body has set up an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee to;

 (i) Advise the Governing Body on its Statutory obligations and best practice in relation to equality and diversity matters.

(ii) Review and advise on the Institute’s equality and diversity policies and monitor the implementation of such policies.

(iii) Make recommendations on the development and implementation of an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion action plan.

(iv) Request and/or receive reports relating to equality and diversity on any activities of the Institute.

(v) Raise awareness on the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

(vi) To have oversight of the operation of the Athena SWAN processes within the Institute – devolving operational matters to the appropriate Athena SWAN  Self Assessment Teams as appropriate. The Athena SWAN SATs will report to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Sub-Committee.

3) An EDI Manager has been appointed to focus on the development, implementation and co-ordination of initiatives, policies, procedures and programs that support and embed equality, diversity and inclusion.

4) IT Sligo has adopted the Athena SWAN Charter and has set up a Self Assessment Team (SAT) to undertake an assessment of gender equality within the Institute and prepare an action plan to address the key issues which arise from this assessment. The Institute plans to apply for an Athena SWAN Institutional bronze award in November 2020.
