Abstract:
‘The Assessment of the Population Dynamics, Spread and Management of Asian Clam (Corbicula fluminea), a new Irish Aquatic Invader’, is a research project based at the Centre for Environmental Research Innovation and Sustainability, (CERIS), The Institute of Technology Sligo. The research is supported by the IT Sligo President’s Bursary award fund, Inland Fisheries Ireland and Waterways Ireland. The research is being conducted by Rory Sheehan, a PhD student, under the supervision of Dr. Frances Lucy.
The ecology of Asian clams in Ireland is being studied, along with how it’s spreading (vectors and pathways of spread). The genetics of the different Irish populations are also being studied, in conjunction with the University of Namur, Belgium, with financial support from the COST Action TD1209 fund.
