Walsh is a lecturer in Psychology in the Department of Social Sciences at the
Institute of Technology, Sligo since 2000. Before taking up a post as lecturer
in third level education, Orla worked with children and their parents in
clinical and education settings in London and in two of Irelands Paediatric
currently teaches Psychology modules on the B.A. (Joint Majors) in English and
Psychology, B.A. in Social Care Practice, B.A. and M.A. in Early Childhood Care
and Education (ECCE) programmes. She has held the position of Programme Chair on both
full time and part time undergraduate Early Childhood courses.
was a founding member of Pedagogy Learning and Education (PLÉ), an umbrella
organisation of third level higher education institutions who deliver degree
programmes in ECCE, and has represented the Institute of Technology, Sligo on
this committee. Orla is a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI)
and is a committee member of its Division of Academics, Teachers and Researcher
in Psychology. She is also a member of
the PSIs Special Interest Group in Media, Art and Cyberpsychology.
research interests include childhood resilience, the impact of digital
technologies on child development and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
She has delivered national and international conference presentations and has
peer reviewed international publications in these areas.
