Information regarding fees & grants for students studying full time on campus, international students and apprentices
Payment Options & Payment Deadlines
Full-time EU students ONLY
Self Funding Students
Students can choose one of the following payment plan options:
- Pay 100% of your fees via Self Service Banner using your student login details.
- Pay 50% by October 31st 2024, and 50% by January 31st 2025 via Self Service Banner using your login details.
- Pay 20% on the day of registration, then 10% per month via Self Service Banner using your student login details. Eight monthly payments between October 20th to May 20th, full payments of fees by final deadline of May 31st. To avail of this option please complete the Instalment Plan Form.

How to pay your fees – online payment with a debit/credit card
Access the Online Payment System
- Registered students only
- Enter Student ID and your password
- Select Pay Fees
- Select academic year and Click on Submit
- Select the Pay Now button and input the amount you need to pay
- Press Submit
Ensure to enter the cardholder’s name, phone number and email address which is linked to the bank card for authentication purposes.
Employer Funded/Skillnet Funding Students
If your Employer/ Skillnet is paying ATU Sligo please email feecollection.sligo@nullatu.ie for a Sponsor Details form
At registration, you will be prompted to pay your fees. If you are a Employer / Skillnet funded student, you should select No under the payment section of registration.
Important Information:
- Data Protection Regulation: We are unable to discuss a student’s fee liability/payments/registration status with a parent/guardian/employer unless the student has provided prior written consent to the fees collection office.
- Students who have a recognised Sponsor (Employer/ Skillnet) are liable for any unpaid fees should the Sponsor default on payment. Please complete the Sponsor Details Form.
- Students who wish to leave ATU within the Academic Year must contact their Head of Department to discuss and complete a Withdrawal form.
- Students who withdraw from ATU after the 31st of October in the current Academic year may have a fee liability and should contact their Fees Office to check any fee liability if in this situation.
- Student on short courses and students repeat attending with fees of €500 and under must pay 100% of their fees at registration or 2 instalments of 50% fees for that course. First payment due by 31st October 2024 and second payment due by 31st January 2025.
Late Fee payment Penalties
Students who have not paid at least 50% of their fees by 31 October in the current Academic Year will lose access to Moodle and Email, unless they set up an agreed, signed Instalment plan with the Grants & Fees Office.
IMPORTANT: Full-time undergraduate students who have applied for a Grant and have not received notification of eligibility for their grant from the awarding body by 31 October in the current Academic Year must either pay 50% of the fee owing to the Institute or set up an agreed, signed instalment plan. Any surplus monies paid will be refunded to the student’s bank account once their full grant is received.
Students who have not paid the second instalment by 31 January in the current Academic Year will lose access to Moodle and Email, unless they are on an agreed, signed instalment plan with the Grants & Fees Office.
IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE:
- Non-receipt of a Fee Reminder letter/email/text by a student will not be accepted as a valid reason for non-payment of fees.
- Students with outstanding fees for a prior academic year will lose access to enrolment records, examination results and academic transcripts.
- Examination results will not be released to any student with outstanding fees.
- Students will not be permitted to register for the next academic session or graduate until their outstanding fees are paid in full
Undergraduate full-time students
Student Contribution Fee – the student contribution fee is €3000 per academic year. On registration, students have the option to pay in two instalments.
Tuition Fee – the Department of Education pays tuition fees for all full-time students who are citizens of a Member State of the EU and who meet the residency requirements. Most full-time undergraduate students will be covered by the Free Fees Initiative scheme for their tuition fee.
Students undertaking a second undergraduate programme, students studying by Part time mode and students taking a year of a programme for a second time (i.e. repeating a year/level) may be liable for tuition fees in addition to the €3000 student contribution fee of;
- Higher Certificate (Level 6) €250
- Ordinary Degree (Level 7) €250
- Honours Degree (Level 8) €819
- Engineering (Level 8) €1450

Undergraduate Students from Northern Ireland & Great Britain
Students from Northern Ireland or Great Britain do not have to pay tuition fees to study in the Republic of Ireland.
They pay the €3000 student contribution fee.
A Student Contribution Loan can be secured to cover this cost in the UK through the Student Loans Company.

Grants
Third Level Student Grants
Students can make a grant application online to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI).
Student grants are divided into maintenance grants, fee grants and the postgraduate contributions.
SUSI opens their online application in April and it closes in November.
Note: Full-time Online programmes are not eligible for the Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI)

Repeat Attend Students
Full Time Students ONLY
The relevant full-time fee is adjusted pro-rata and students are charged on a per-credit basis.
The Registration fee is also calculated pro rata on a per credit basis.
Repeat attending students, if you intend to repeat attend one or more subjects, you will need to
- Contact your Head of Departments to obtain permission to repeat attend.
- Complete the Repeat Attend Form 2024/25.

International Students
Full-Time Tuition Fees for new ATU Sligo non-EU students for the current Academic Year are as follows:
- Undergraduate: €10,500 per academic year
- Postgraduate: €12,000 per academic year

Tax Relief on Fees If you do not qualify for free fees you may be entitled to tax relief. Information may be obtained from Revenue. The tax relief applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate course fees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Under the Higher Education Free Fees Initiative (this scheme is currently under review), the State pays the tuition costs for eligible full-time, non-repeat undergraduate, EU/EEA/Swiss confederation students who:
- Are first-time undergraduates.
- Hold EU/EEA/Swiss Confederation nationality or official refugee status contact see here for details.
- Have been ordinarily resident in an EU/EEA/Swiss Confederation member state for at least three of the last five years preceding their entry to an approved course.

Only students who are not eligible under the initiative are liable to pay full charges.
Students who are classified as non-EU students pay non-EU rates. See the International webpage for fees schedule and information.

The Student Contribution Charge for undergraduate students who qualify for ‘free fees’ is €3,000 in the current Academic Year.
Payment Options are outlined above.
If you are eligible under the Higher Education Free Fees initiative, you will have to pay the Student Contribution Charge.
If you are not eligible for this, you will have to pay the full programme rate, which includes the Student Contribution Charge and Student Tuition Charge.
Tax Relief: As ATU is listed by the Irish revenue as an ‘Approved Institution’, students/ parents may be eligible to claim tax relief. In order to determine eligibility please read the information on the Revenue website.
New entrants to the Higher Education Grants Scheme will be managed through the Student Universal Support Ireland [SUSI] system, rather than through individual County Councils, Local Authorities or VECs. If you think you are eligible for a grant you should deal directly with SUSI via email or by phone – +353 818 888 777.
If you are due a refund, please email feecollection.sligo@nullatu.ie with Subject line: “Refund Form Request” and include your Student ID Number.
