Support is our priority. We have invested heavily in our learning facilities to ensure our students have access to the latest enhancements in technology and are supported throughout their academic journey.
Academic Writing Centre
Whether you are new or returning to your studies, we understand that writing academic assignments can be challenging. That is why the Academic Writing Centre offers free advice and guidance on all aspects of academic writing to all students studying on campus or online at ATU Sligo.
Located in the Learning Zone on the ground floor of the Yeats Library, the centre offers 1:1 or small group appointments with experienced writing tutors in a friendly and supportive environment. Appointments can also be held live online. Additionally, the centre offers a variety of freely accessible writing workshops, academic writing guides, recorded tutorials and a self-paced and interactive Online Academic Writing Programme.
Whether you are unsure about academic writing expectations, have specific queries or need advice on how to improve a draft assignment, our tutors will provide guidance at any stage of the writing process. Click here for more information.
Academic Writing Online Course
This free, self-directed and interactive course is designed to develop the academic writing skills of all students at ATU Sligo. If you are new or returning to writing at third level and want to improve your academic writing skills, this programme will be relevant for you.
Each unit in the programme addresses a key topic in academic writing from an Introduction to Academic Writing, Effective Reading and Note-Taking, Avoiding Plagiarism and Critical Writing. Using a range of examples, activities, quizzes and downloadable resources to support the content, you can complete individual units or the entire programme.
Maths Support Centre
Maths is a subject that even the most capable student can struggle with. That is why we have established the Maths Support Centre.
This innovative and friendly centre offers the supports many students need. Services include consultations, tutorials, computer-based tutorials and access to relevant text materials. You can even submit maths problems for correction.
Students can access these facilities on a one-to-one basis, as a small group or online.
Technology Support
Technology continues to play a pivotal role in our everyday lives – and education is no different. That is why we have several structures in place to support our students learning experience.
We have free Office 365 to download to your own devices plus free unlimited One Drive data storage. This allows students to study or access their data anywhere in the world, at any time.
Discounted offers on PCs, Macs, tablets and broadband will help with costs. Alternatively, just ask about our short-term free IT Equipment rental. ATU Sligo has free campus-wide high-speed WIFI also.
English Language Support
Free English language support is available to all students, no matter their language level. Online content, resources and tests are available for students to work through at their own pace alongside live classes and supports.
Academic Success Course
The Epigeum Academic Success Course has been designed for online, full and part time students at ATU.
Its aim is to prepare students for college life and give helpful tips and advice on how to find information. This course covers everything a student needs from adapting to college life to managing study skills and academic integrity.
The entire course will take approximately 5 hours to fully complete.
However modules can be completed individually or all 3 can be completed together as one course.

Academic Integrity Programme
Discover the values, skills, and behaviours that are vital to studying with Epigeum academic integrity at ATU in this interactive, online course.
In this course, we define academic integrity as ‘acting with the values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility in learning, teaching and research.’ (Universities Australia, 2017). You can work through the modules at your own pace. You will be awarded a digital badge upon completion.
This course will take approx. 2.5 hours to fully complete.
