Chloe O’Brien – BA (Hons) in Fine Art
Name: Chloe O’Brien
School: Balla Secondary School
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to choose your course:
I always had an interest in art and wanted to pursue a career in it. I wanted a course that allowed me to explore all aspects of Fine Art and not just one area. ATU Sligo allowed me to have those options.
Tell us why you chose ATU Sligo:
I came from a small town and a small school. I didn’t want to move to a bigger city that would be too overwhelming but wanted to have my independence too. ATU Sligo was the perfect size for me.
What specifically about the course do you particularly enjoy:
I enjoy the mixture of different areas of art that I can explore. I can go from ceramics to photography on the same day, or paint for a week if I want. There’s always something available to expand your creativity.
What is the best thing about your course that you think new applicants should know:
The best thing is having a piece of work come to life and seeing your skills improve.
If you were speaking with a first-year student about to start your course, what advice/information would you give them:
Keep on top of your work! An essay can be written in a day but a painting or sculpture cannot!
If you are involved in sports, volunteering, working or have other passions you pursue outside of your academic life, can you tell us about that? Especially mention any Teams, Clubs or Awards.
I play for my local LFGA team, Balla Junior Ladies. I am a big Mayo GAA supporter and have travelled as far as New York for matches. I also have a passion for playing music, including piano, saxophone and tin whistle.
What are your plans after ATU Sligo and any long term goals you are aiming for:
I am planning to go travelling after graduating next year, and then I am hoping to go on secondary school education to train as a teacher.
