My Green Campus
Here at ATU Sligo My Green Campus, we strive to empower transformation to a sustainable society for all our stakeholders, including students, staff, the organisations we work with and the community we live and serve.
We acknowledge that our operations, activities, and infrastructure affect our natural environment and the wellbeing of our planet. Therefore, we are cognisant of our responsibility to reduce our impact and transition to a more sustainable Institute.
Central to our ambition is to embed sustainability throughout our student and staff experience. In doing this, we have set out a Charter to communicate our ambition.
This Charter reflects our Sustainability Strategy (2021-2025). It is a living document.
We will measure and assess our ongoing performance to ensure we realise our vision.
Both of these documents are under consultation with our staff and student stakeholders.
Inclusive Approach to Sustainability
ATU Sligo formally signed up to the Green Campus Ireland programme in April 2019 under the themes of Waste and Energy.
Since this time, they have worked to attain the Green Flag status for these themes.
The Green Flag and Green Campus Ireland are all about developing a smarter, sustainable campus community. It is a process of developing and embedding our commitment to sustainability as a thirds level education facility into our day to day activities.
The Green-Campus Programme is an evolution of Green-Schools (known internationally as Eco-Schools), a programme developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
It is implemented and managed by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce.
The Programme encourages practical environmental education and the empowerment of campuses to become an exemplar in environmental stewardship.
